Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical technique that involves the insertion of very thin, fine needles into specific points along pathways (meridians) on the body in order to stimulate and influence the body's own energy flow, referred to as "Qi". Stimulation of these points releases endogenous opioids, neurotransmitters, and other chemicals that have an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and immune boosting effects. Consistent acupuncture treatments promotes improved overall health and well-being.

Electro-Stim

Electro-Stim, or Electro-Acupuncture (EA) is a modality where gentle electrical currents are applied to the needles using electrodes. Generally two currents; milliamp (mA), and microcurrent (µA) are utilized during a treatment. The intensity of the current felt is tailored to the patients specific level of comfort. Electro-Acupuncture is excellent for treating a wide variety of pain conditions, ranging from sports and overuse injuries to post-operative pain. Additionally, Electro-stim has been shown to break down adhesions and scar tissue, reducing recovery time from injury.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has been used for over 2,000 years in China, and encompasses part of the larger whole that is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Herbs may be prescribed in conjunction to acupuncture to address a variety of maladies, including the common cold, allergies, problem digestion, and especially when a condition is long-standing or has plateaued. Formulas are often customized to each individual and available in many forms such as capsules, tablets, water soluble granules, extracts, and teas.

Cupping and Gua Sha

Cupping is the application of various sized glass cups to the body using suction. Cups are placed on the skin over the muscles of the back, neck, shoulders and legs, increasing local blood flow to reduce inflammation, release muscle tension, and break up adhesions. Cups are left on the skin for 10-15 minutes then removed. Gua-Sha uses a smooth edged tool to scrape specific areas or regions of the body to improve blood flow and reduce inflammation.
